Match one of the year was the first of three scheduled encounters against Redcliffe, and was staged over twelve boards at 60/side + 30/move. The first two games finished were wins to Harry and Tony Hughes. This was much to the lament of Redcliffe captain Mark Stokes, as both players were representing Bullwinkle (despite nowadays attending the Redcliffe club). Although the match ultimately fell 8.5-3.5 to Bullwinkle, most of the games were closely fought. Redcliffe have for many years been the strongest club around. It was a pleasure, as always, to do battle.
